Monthly Wrap Up • March 2019

Hey there, friends!

Happy spring! I am loving this nicer weather. I had my windows open last night listening to the rain. The peepers were out, singing their little bug song. I love listening to nature. It was oh so magical.

This Pisces Mercury Rx was rough. But thankfully, it’s on the way out. Retrogrades are usually pretty confusing and stressful, but for some reason this one really hit hard.

It had me exhausted, stressed, and barely keeping up with my normal daily load. The whole month of March went by like I was underwater, not fully aware or present, and my empathy levels were off the charts. It almost felt, for the first time in a year, like I was off my medications and back in the chronic anxiety that I used to live with every day. Overall, March was not a fun experience, but retrogrades are never meant to be fun. They are there to refocus you, to finish up loose ends, and dot your i’s.

Despite this, March saw a bit of blog growth, albeit small.

I began using wordads to monetize my site. I had roughly 750 views this month and saw $1.70 in revenue through ads. I know this number will fluctuate from month to month, but I am very pleased with this number. With these statistics, I am assuming wordads pays around $2 for every 1000 views.

I have also cut down on the number of posts per week. My usual was somewhere in the 3-5 range, and I am now down to roughly 2 posts per week. This gives me some extra time to write and queue posts for future months.

I am still researching how to collaborate with brands and affiliating or having posts sponsored. I do not feel confident enough yet to reach out and query a brand, but I am learning a lot in this area. I have also been waffling on the idea of niching my blog. So many people say “Niche, niche!” But I’m having fun writing about a variety of topics. It’s a battle I am still waging with myself. We shall see where that leads in the future, but for now I am not going to niche.

I am still very much enjoying this blogging journey. I’ve edited some features on my theme to eliminate the endless scrolling. I wanted a footer area with information and Instagram photos, since I feel that those show my readers who I am best.

Aside from blogging, I have been working tons and studying for the GRE in between. I will have some posts regarding my graduate school adventure coming up in the future. I will discuss study tips and the application process. Is this something you guys would be interested in seeing more of? Please let me know.

I find it very frustrating in studying for the GRE that the questions are all designed to trick you. It doesn’t test your knowledge or intelligence. It tests how well you can take the damn test. But I am pushing through, learning all their traps so I can avoid them on test day. It’s mentally draining, but sort of rewarding at the same time. When I pass the GRE, it will be the biggest accomplishment of my life.

I hope you’ve all had a wonderfully productive March. Spring is here! Do you have any April plans? I want to get out in nature and do some hiking and bike riding.
